Missions Trips
BASICBASIC is a local mission trip which combines churches from Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, Alabama and Ohio. We will be spending the week of June 21-26 at the Holiday Inn in Troy, MI. From there we will engage in various local outreach ministries including Angel House in Dearborn, MI, God's Helping Hands in Rochester Hills, MI, as well as other local outreach projects. During the week we will also be spending time each day in Bible study sessions and praise and worship time. This mission trip was established two years ago with four churches participating and has expanded to include nine churches this year. In the past two years we have seen God working in the lives of the students who have attended. The students have spent time in developing their walk with God as well as reaching out to others by sending out Praying For You cards to family and friends who need to know Christ as their Savior or to those who need encouragement to grow in their walk with the Lord. In addition to these cards, the students have served through cleaning up a homeless lot, served the community through car washes, worked at God's Helping Hands to help the needy, helped clean-up at a local park, and done street ministry passing out salvation tracts at the Tigers games. All of these activities have instilled in the students the need to reach others for Christ and how to get out there and do it.This mission trip is open to students in grades 9-12 upon completion of an application and acceptance to participate. JAMAICACornerstone Student Ministries has been able to team up with two churches in Jamaica, Macfield Baptist Church of Hanover and Calvary Baptist Church of Savanna La Mar.A team of 20-25 students and leaders head to Jamaica to run a week of Vacation Bible School for each of the churches. The children attending the VBS enjoy hearing the stories, watching the skits and puppet shows, making crafts, and playing games. On a couple of evenings, the team has the opportunity to visit a local nursing home. They spend time getting to know the patients by singing songs and reading to some of them. They also visit Robin's Nest Children's Home at least one time during their stay in Jamaica. It's great to see the children's eyes light up when they see the students and leaders coming to hold them, play with them, read to them, and sing to them. This is an awesome trip, the rewards received through the smiles and hugs from the children are worth every minute spent preparing for and every cent raised to pay for this trip. |
